Mukilteo,Seattle-Land of wealthy dogs
So I work in a city called Mukilteo. It is the more uppity, nice area of the greater Seattle area. (Well, most places around here are nice but Mukilteo is kinda where the snobs live. [I am not talking about anyone I am related to])
I constantly see people walking their dogs, nothing out of the ordinary right? Well, one day this girl comes in to my work with her two dogs and after her transaction is done (I work at a bank by the way) she asks if we have any dog treats, like she expects me to say yes. I apologize and say no, thinking in my head, "What the heck? Of course we don't have dog treats, this is a bank." So I chuckle to myself and then tell one of my tellers what just happened. He looks at me and totally serious says, "Oh yeah, we usually do, we're just out right now." Okay, kinda weird.
Then the next day I am standing next to two of my employees who are talking about their "babies". By the way they were talking it sounded like they were talking about real human children. Come to find out, they were talking about their dogs.
One of my employees called in sick to work because she had to stay home with her sick dog to feed it a pill every four hours. My boss at first said okay and then called her back and told her to bring her dog with her to work if she needed to. (What?!)
There is this place called "Happy Hound Hotel" which is a boarding place for dogs but its like a luxury hotel. This is were you take your precious pooch while you are away.
Gets even better, there is a hotel in Seattle (which my employees have stayed at) that caters to your dog as much as it caters to you. The Hotel Monaco has a treat for your dog every night, dog coats, dog activities, you can even pay $55 to give your dog a 45 minute massage.
If your puppy can't come with you they will give you a goldfish and toys for the goldfish to keep you company.

The deal with the dog attitude is that there are a lot of affluent folk with not a lot of ways to spend it around here. Apparently they'll spend it on dogs. But that's been a recent development over the past 8 years or so. It never used to be that way.
Hang out in Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland... you'll see the same thing.
