My sister Rachel came up to visit us for Christmas. She was here from Dec 23rd through today. I took her to the airport about 4 hours ago and I miss her already! We were snowed in for about three of the days she was here, not because the snow was that bad but because my car can not drive in the snow and we tried buying chains but everywhere was sold out. So since Jon needed his car to go to work everyday, Rachie and I were stuck at home a few days. That made for some lazy, but still enjoyable days.
On Christmas Eve we baked and cooked all day long. We made gingerbread cookies, snickerdoodles and biscotti. I made a beef brisket for dinner and my in-laws came over. Dinner came out very tasty :) Christmas morning we went to my in-laws' house, opened gifts, ate breakfast and then took a long nap! We woke up about an hour before dinner, ate, played some Speed Scrabble and then went home.
I had lots of fun having Rach here, just hanging out with her and doing nothing is nice. I miss living closer to her, so it makes the times I do see her even more precious. I hope she gets to come visit again in the summer :)
It is snowing today! We live pretty close to Downtown Seattle so it doesn't snow much down here, usually even if it does snow it melts as soon as it touches the ground. Well, tonight it isn't melting! YAY! Here are some photos :
So I got laid off today. :( I am now one of the many Americans who have been laid off due to the sucky economy. The company I work (er, worked) for is very small and I am the third person in the last eight months to be let go. It was not a total shock so I was kind of prepared emotionally for this. I am not worried about my family financially, yes it is sucky to be laid off (especially during this spendy season) but overall it is not a completely unfortunate situation. Here is why:
I can't remember if I have posted this before, so here it is:
My husband and I honeymooned in Paris in September 2006. While we were there we saw this beautiful coat in a shop window. My new husband wouldn't let me buy it (It was only 1200 euros, I can't see why he wouldn't let me get it!) So we took pictures of it on his phone, then he "accidentally" deleted the photos. So all I had was a memory of it.
We went to Paris in May 2008 and I wanted to go back to that shop just to see if the coat was still there. It was! It is still in the same shop window after a year and a half! I think it was an omen, I think I was supposed to buy that coat. Still, the hubbs said no. :( Oh well, at least I have the photo of it this time!
What was the last thing you built with your own hands?
Submitted by Nick.
I am currently sewing "building" a dress to wear to a wedding I am attending in September.
What are you most looking forward to in August?
Summer being almost over.
I think my Vox is lonely. I haven not updated for a while and most of my contacts have not updated in a week or two. Plurk has stolen everyone (except Randi and Rachel) from Vox.
Oh well...
What's your favorite type of donut?

Yesterday was the summer solstice for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. How did you celebrate the arrival of summer and the longest day of the year?
We had a Chinese food potluck at work. At home, Jon and I ate the leftovers from said potluck for dinner and watched the first two episodes of The Mole online. I think that show has an interesting concept, but it is a little ridiculous. We rolled our eyes at most the show, we watched the second episode to give it a fair chance, but I don't think I will be watching any more of it. All the times when they contestants do the little interview things, it just seems to scripted. No me gusta The Mole.
We did not really do a summer solstice celebration, although I might go down to the Fremont Fair tomorrow to check it out. Fremont is the hippiest city is Seattle. I like it, Jon does not, which is why I might go by myself while he is at work. I do have more to do around the house though, so I also might just stay home and clean. fun.
